Built by Golden Hind Marine to RCD Ocean standard up to hull, deck and cabin construction plus all structural bulkheads in 1998, fitted out by owner and launched in 2000. White GRP hull with Oxford blue sheerstrake with Iroko rubbing strake and toe rails. GRP cockpit and lazarette. Cabin and decks of Iroko and marine plywood with all exterior facing plywood epoxy sheathed and finished with a minimum of two coats of 2-pack paint. Encapsulated ballast in long iron fin keel. Teak coach roof grab rails. Tiller steering to skeg hung rudder. Aft self draining cockpit. Self draining gas locker. Anchor locker.
Keppel differs from most Golden Hind 31s:
Taller than normal mast and cat-head bowsprit deliver a more powerful rig. Longer fore cabin berths and increased headroom throughout. No chain pipe to divide the fore cabin berth. First Golden Hind 31 to have a GPR cockpit and aft deck. First Golden Hind 31 to have a GRP heads and shower module. First Golden Hind 31 to have a GRP cooker enclosure. Believed to be the only Golden Hind 31 with hydrofoil bilge plates; these remove the plate vibration associated with Golden Hind 31s. Being wider they also better resist cheese-wiring on soft ground. First Golden Hind 31 to have a balanced rudder to deliver superior manoeuvrability. Extra large lazarette seats to increase the cockpit seating capacity. De-mountable inner forestay to provide a cutter rig as well as a practical 'snug' staysail and storm jib. Dual position cockpit table. Equipment for mast stowage on deck (inland waterways)
